welcome to my site
Hi, I’m Jamie Livingston-Dierks and I started Happiness is my Compass because I started looking for happiness when I was in my twenties, and I’ve followed that compass for decades.
Have you ever had someone say something to you that’s completely innocuous, and yet that sentence remains with you for years? When I was twenty-four years old, my father said, “Jamie, you’re never going to be happy.” I don’t even remember the conversation that preempted this statement, but I remember the statement clearly, and even remember where we were standing when he told me. From that moment forward, I decided to choose happiness.
Choosing happiness hasn’t always been easy, because I’m not the type of person to be satisfied with status quo, always striving to be more and better. And for almost a decade, I got lost. I moved halfway across the country, leaving everyone and everything (including my family) behind. My welcome to the Midwest didn’t go smoothly and I immediately felt more alone than I could ever remember feeling in my life.
The move was the toughest change I’d ever faced, but it was also a wake up call. It was the first time in my life I actually started seeking ways to be happy. I was stuck in a place I couldn’t walk away from and I needed to find happiness in spite of my circumstances. So I started my journey.
The journey wasn’t easy, but it was interesting and fun, and it’s not over yet. I’ve learned so much about myself, and my resilience from that experience. I also learned to build websites, make glass beads and jewelry, and how to write novels and magazine articles. It was a time when I told myself, “I’m never going to say coulda, woulda , shoulda.” If I wanted to learn something, or make something, I did it. And I still do. In the last year I’ve learned photography, compositing, leather tooling, and more.
Why did I do all these things? Because “happiness is my compass,” is my guide and learning new things makes me happy. Writing makes me really happy, and I write mysteries under the pen name Jamie Lee Scott. You can click here to see that website.
I’m hoping this blog will help you find your way on your happiness journey by learning to be more productive, manage your time, manage your money (because having a good handle on your finances is a big key to happiness), and choose happiness. When you choose to manifest happiness, it will come to you.
So grab a cup of coffee, tea, or your preferred beverage, and take a look around.
Thanks for stopping by.
